Bia Power Italia (“Bia”) and Eren Storage Italia are pleased to announce the expansion of their strategic cooperation in the Italian battery energy storage sector through the inclusion of the Chiaramonte Energia Seconda project (“Chiaramonte 2”) into their existing development partnership.
Chiaramonte 2 is a proposed 195 MW / 780 MWh (4-hour) Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) project located in Sicily, Italy, and represents one of the largest standalone storage developments currently being advanced in Southern Italy.
The addition of Chiaramonte 2 brings the total jointly targeted portfolio between Bia and Eren Storage Italia to above 750 MW of BESS capacity in Italy, achieving the parties’ previously agreed strategic development target.
The expanded cooperation further strengthens the long-term partnership between the two companies, which are jointly focused on developing utility-scale energy storage infrastructure to support Italy’s accelerating renewable energy transition and long-duration grid flexibility requirements.

The combined portfolio is focused primarily on Southern Italy and Sicily, where increasing renewable penetration and grid congestion are expected to drive substantial demand for flexible storage capacity over the coming decade.
The Chiaramonte 2 project is currently progressing through the development and permitting process, with grid connection milestones already achieved and technical development activities ongoing.
