Bia Power UK Limited and Eren Industries are pleased to announce the formation of a strategic joint venture to co-develop, construct, own and operate the Walsoken Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) project in the United Kingdom.
The Walsoken project, located near Wisbech in Norfolk, England, is a 200mw/ 400mwh utility-scale battery energy storage development designed to support the UK’s transition toward a more resilient, flexible and low-carbon electricity system. The project has secured planning consent for 200mw with a 2 hour duration, but could potentially be converted into a Long Duration Energy Storage Scheme.
Under the terms of the joint venture, Bia Power UK Limited and Eren Industries will work collaboratively to advance the project through the remaining development, financing and construction phases, with the intention of building, owning and operating the asset over the long term.
The project is expected to play an important role in supporting the integration of renewable energy generation, enhancing grid stability and contributing to the UK’s long-term energy security objectives.
